An 1817 English sterling chamberstick. The chamberstick is rectangular with a gadroon edge on the base as well as on the bobeche which is removable. It is typical for the period being plain, simplistic and sturdy. The chamberstick and the bobeche have the silver marks lion and crown denoting London with the letter b for the year 1817 and the makers mark of TH over GH for Thomas and George Hayter, who were silversmiths in London between 1810-1840. The mark is the third mark of Thomas Hayter who went into partnership with his son in 1816. The snuffer has no marks and is probably a later addition. The chamberstick is 16.5 cm long by 13 cm wide and its height is 7 cm. It weighs 340 grams.
