216 French 19th Century Silverplate Chamberstick

An early 19th or late 18th century French chamberstick. This unusual silver plated or silvered alloy chamberstick is of unusal shape. Its finger holder and handle are typical 18th or early 19th century French Bronze or silver chambersticks. However, its height of 5.6 cm, diameter of 5 cm and weight of 220 grams, make it small enough to carry in a pocket, and stable and sturdy to be placed at a table. It is said that similar chambersticks were carried by advocates in their pocket to enable them to work when travelling.
