A rare circa 1840 German silver chamberstick profusely decorated. Reeded and criss-cross banded border, both handle and bowl. Five oval frame portraits with a Classical profile of a gentleman, long flowing hair style and attire, satin background at the handle. Remainder of handle with ruffled ribbon and bow, streaming leaf and flower heads. Bowl with four distinct portrait medallions. One a handsome period gentlewoman. Streaming garland, with ribbon and bow ties above. Finger panels, floral filled. Beaded removable nozzle supported upon urn form pedestal. It is 29.5cms long, 12.5 cms diameter, 9 cms tall and weighs 360 grams. Fully hallmarked including the early 19th century city mark for Goerlitz and what appears as a Maltese cross in circle cartouche and third mark, letters (rubbed) with crown
