38 English 19th Century Sterling Chamberstick

An English 1882-1885 sterling chamberstick. Made in Sheffield with the letter P or S for 1882 or 1885, this round chamberstick is similar to a tea glass holder. It probably held a glass insert which protected the candle from wind. Its rims (bottom and up and the finger holder are gadrooned, while the glass holder is profusely reticulated. It has the date letter P or S ( the two appear side by side) and the makers mark J.B which could be one of the several companies in Sheffield at that period. The chamberstick has a diameter of 9 cm, is 8 cm high and weighs 220 grams.
