A late 18th or early 19th century Spanish silver chamberstick. The chamberstick or palmatoria (in Spanish) has a gadrooned edge on the base and long handle. It is embossed with different leave patterns on the edges of the handle and is decorated with small half circles in the middle of the handle. The candle holder is connected to the base by a screw and bolt and is also decorated. The long handle (19 cm), has at the bottom end a chain which connects to a pair of pincer-type extinguisher slotting into a bracket on the bottom of the handle, which is typical of Italian and Spanish chambersticks of this era. The chamberstick is marked, with the city sign for Barcelona and the hallmark of the assayer Francisco Turquet. An additional hallmark, probably of the silversmith Baxera is unknown. The chamberstick is 29 cm long, 8.5 cm wide and about 4.7 cm high. It weighs about 180 grams
