An 1827 Russian silver chamberstick, made in Petrograd (St. Petersburg). The chamberstick is comprised of 3 pieces, the gadrooned base and the candle holder; the gadrooned sconce; and an unusual double gadrooned snuffer. All three peices have the Russian marks of 84 for silver content and the assayer’s mark MK for assay master Michael Karpinsky. The date marks are for 1827 for the chamberstick and snuffer but for 1826 for the sconce, all under the sign of MK. The chamberstick was obviously influenced by the design of English chambersticks of the same (Georgian) era. The chamberstick has a Diameter of about 13 cm and is about 8.5 cm high. It weighs 400 grams.
