313 Russian 19th Century Silver Chamberstick


An 1841 silver Russian chamberstick. This rare beautiful chamberstick has a round base which is richly carved in relief with shells, flowers and rock at its rim, its candle holder and its bobeche. Traces of vermillom can be found on the chamberstick. The thumb rest is also completely carved in flowers and leaves. The chamberstick is fully marked on the bottom of the rim and on the candle holder. Its silver marks are zolotnikov 84 (875/1000) silver purity with the sign of Moscow Master Assayer Andrei Antonovich KOVALSKIJ 1827-1856 over the year 1841. The sign for the workshop of Jakov WIBERG, Moscow 1829-1852, one of the largest house of the Russian silverware of the first half of the nineteenth century can also be noticed. The chamberstick has a diameter of 11.0 cm with the finger holder extending an additional 3 cm. It is 8 cm high and weighs 163 grams
