264 English 19th Century Sterling Chamberstick

An 1840 English sterling chamberstick. The relatively tall chamberstick is decorated with branches and leaves on its base, as well as on the stem and the original snuffer. The base rises to the stem which is profusely decorated at its bottom with the same type of branches and leaves. The candle holder continues the flowing form which ends with the wax dripper. The finger holder also has the branch decoration. The chamberstick (and snuffer) have the marks for Sheffield, the letter u for the year 1840 and the makers mark HW&Co which was the mark of Henry Wilkinson & Co. entered in Sheffield in 1831. It is similar to the smaller chamberstick #30 which was also made in Sheffield. The chamberstick has an 8 cm diameter and is 14.5 cm tall. It weighs 180 grams
