An 1845 English sterling chamberstick. This elegant chamberstick is decorated throughout with scroll work. It has a square tray which is designed as 4 decorated triangles separated by 4 long, plain rectangular “tongues”. The tray rises to meet an unusual very thin hexagon decorated stem, which leads to a hexagon decorated candle holder with a detachable round sconce. The decorated thin round finger holder and hexagon conical snuffer are attached to the stem on opposite sides. The chamberstick is hallmarked on the base near the rim, on the finger holder and on the snuffer with: lion, young Queen Victoria head, maker’s initials “Y&W” (Yapp & Woodward), date letter “W” (1845-6), and Birmingham anchor. The removable sconce is marked with the maker’s initials “Y&W”, and a young Queen Victoria head. The chamberstick is 6 cm wide, 9 cm tall and it weighs 65 grams
