A 19th century French sterling chamberstick. The chamberstick has a unique elongated gadrooned border quatrefoil form which ends in a curved finger holder. The curved finger holder is delightfully decorated with a demonic mask of the “green man”. Its other end with a more angelic female mask. The candle socket has laurel leaf decoration and the bobeche has a bead border. The terminal of The piece is an assemblage of cast pieces so the gauge of the piece is quite heavy. The chamberstick is hallmarked multiple times with the Mercury head French 1 standard silver (.950) mark used since 1838 with maker’s mark (HC above 3 stars or DH below three stars). It measures 17.5 cm in length, approx 10 cm in width and 5.5 cm in height. It weighs 270 grams
