A 19th century sterling German (Hanau) chamberstick. The chamberstick has a round base with completely covered embossed decoration of beutiful flowers, foliage and scrolls. The base has a raised crimped edging, the stem of the candle holder has a smooth finish which in turn complements the body of the holder with its raised embossed flowers, the detachable sconce also has a matching embossed decoration of flowers and foliage and is finished with again the crimped edging, the handle is scrolled with a formed leaf to the top. The detachable snuffer is cone shaped with again matching raised embossed flowers and foliage and finished with the crimped edging. This Victorian Solid Silver Chamber Stick with Attached snuffer was crafted by Hanau silversmith Karl Kurz circa 1890. The chamberstick was imported into London by Theodor Hartmann ( who was known for importing Hanau silver) and assayed in 1904. The chamberstick, removable sconce and snuffer are all fully hallmarked. The chamberstick has a diameter of 8.5 cm, is about 6 cm high and weighs 130 grams.
