A 19th century Swiss Sterling chamberstick. The chamberstick has the round form with a relatively tall (almost disproportionately tall) candle holder. Its finger holder is a silver handle that has a bear on top of a plinth, that has a relief scroll decorated base. The underside of the body has been impressed with a Swiss bear and 950 standard solid silver mark that was in use from 1882. The marks for Berne along with the makers mark of J Widmer who worked in Bern towards the end of the 19th century are also present. The chamberstick measures approximately 5.44 cm across from the handle to the front lip of the lower body by just over 4.3 cm across the width or diameter of the base and it stands 3.8 cm tall. It weighs about 20 grams.
