256 Swedish 19th Century Silver Chamberstick

An 1865 Swedish silver chamberstick. The chamberstick (one of a pair, see # 255) is shaped like a scallop sea shell and is scalloped throughout the base. Its finger holder is curved to form the candle holder which has a detachable bobeche. The upper part of the candle holder and the bobeche flow into a curved octagonal shape. There is a full set of silver marks on the base of the chamberstick and on the detachable bobeche. The hallmarks are the Swedish Hallmark (three crowns in a cat’s paw), L5 for 1865 W for the city and FH for the maker Frans Holm who worked in Vadstena and used this hallmark from 1849 – 1882. The chamberstick is 14 cm long, 10.5 cm wide and 9.5 cm tall. It weighs 100 grams.
