A mid-18th century Austrian chamberstick. This is a rare and particularly fine Austro Hungarian chamberstick from the town of Tirnau, now in Slovakia. It’s candle holder and round tray are plain and simple, and it has a well-proportioned thumb and forefinger holder which is similar to English early 18th century chambersticks. The chamberstick has hallmarks of Tirnau, Austria with a partial rubbed 13 denoting 13 loth on top of the city mark. The maker’s mark on the right of the monogram, MS is undocumented. There is also a monogram of a crown on top of a shield, between the city hallmark and the maker’s mark. The chamberstick measures 14.5 cm wide and 6 cm high. It weighs 155 grams.
