203 English 19th Century Sterling Chamberstick

An 1830 English Sheffield sterling chamberstick. The chamberstick is a rarely observed octagonal petal design, a rare form in that period of English silver. The chamberstick has elegant raised berry, leaf and vine decoration throughout. The leaf displays are united by swirling vine, with twin flower head at the center. It has a fixed raised urn form sconce, with conforming leaf and vine and a boldly fashioned twin vine and leaf flying scroll handle. The handle design is first seen on c1740 chambersticks and retains the original conical form, leaf and vine adorned extinguisher, or snuffer which is supported perfectly to the handle center slot. The chamberstick and snuffer have the makers mark of S.C. Young & CO. from Sheffield, listed from 1811- 1831, with the letter mark for the year 1830. The chamberstick is 16 cm diameter, 7 cm tall and weighs 330 grams.
