173 English 19th Century Silverplate Chamberstick

A 19th century English silver plated chamberstick. The chamberstick has the thistle design and is of a triangular shape. Its base is comprised of six leaves of which three are bent to provide the stand (or legs) of the chamberstick. The leaves as well as the candle holder have a delicate vein like design. The finger holder is connected to the edge of one of the leaves with two parts which flow into one part connected to the center of the chamberstick. The chamberstick has the silver plate marks of James Dixon and Sons of Sheffield with the trumpet and banner sign indicating it was made between 1880 to 1890, when the sign was introduced. An identical chamberstick which might predate this date does not have the sign but only two Gothic letters. The chamberstick is 9.5 cm long, 7.5 cm high and weighs 180 grams.
