166 English 18th Century Sterling Chamberstick

A rare 1795 oval Georgian sterling chamberstick. The chamberstick has a handle and not a finger holder, which is extremely rare for English chambersticks of that period. The chamberstick has no decorations and its beauty lies in its plain, clean lines. It has the full set of English hallmarks, and the “u” letter for 1795. The silversmiths initial IL is for John Lias, who worked in London from 1791 to 1818. The IL hallmark changed in 1818 on, in accordance with the evolution of the firm. The chamberstick is 7.5 cms wide, 16.5 cms long (from edge to end of the handle), and weighs 75 gms.
